Re: Bass drum tom mounts, Standard, Rocket Launcher , or NONE

I'm not a fan of stand mounted toms, especially for gigging. I've been happy with the standard double tom mount on my Frankenstein Designers, SQ2, and Vintage Series, but I did the drilling myself. I use 2 rack toms and play a middle pedal, so I need the toms about 4 inches closer to the resonant ...

Re: Why don't they offer these like this anymore?

Twenty years ago, I had two 2nd generation Designer double cymbal stands with Z5507c prism clamps and as Scott said, they were very elegant and super heavy duty. However, the lack of memory clamp capability on the top of the blocks for the skinny ratchet arms made them very impractical for gigging ...

I bought my Scandinavian Birch Lites new for $2,750 in early '84 and it's still my primary gigging kit as I have 22 and 20 bass drums. I pieced together a Bubinga Signature Heavy kit for $1800 in around '02, including the bass drum and one tom from Jules. I liked the look, but preferred the sound of ...

Re: Who has or has had (and played) Giant Step Pedals?

I found a reasonably priced used Giant Step Middle Pedal after I had built a middle pedal with 1st generation Tama Iron Cobra parts. The GS was smooth, but didn't have the feel and power of the Tama, so I sold it.

Re: Bass Drum Pedals: What is your brand of choice?

I've been a Tama BD pedal player since '79 and have used a middle pedal exclusively for a little over 20 years. It's so much more ergonomic than a regular double pedal. I use just the right side on non-double bass gigs. I got the idea from the Giant Step Middle pedal and realized I could build one ...

Re: Memory Locks for BA-TB

My hardware case is long enough that I don't have to shorten the boom arms when I tear down, so I don't need memory locks on them.

Re: Memory Locks for BA-TB

I wondered about this a few years ago and asked Sam I Am if they existed and he said no.
